 In Eurovision Diary 2018

Hejsan Hejsan and welcome to the birthday celebration day of Hans Cromheecke! Hans is our technical manager for video. A happy Belgium boy we got to know back in 2009 when we did Eurovision in Moscow. I figured that if I ever need a really good technical manager for video, Hans will be my first choice, since he managed to ride out the Moscow show, which was, to put it mildly, a bit over the top when it came to video. One could think – why on earth would you need a technical manager for video? Did you not state that there was no video in the set this year Ola? Yes I did! But I did not mention anything happening ON the stage during some artist perfomances. Why? Because it’s a freaking secret, and you just have to be a bit patient! I’ll tell you when I can!

Anyway, we surprised him with a cake and a 50-year-old bottle of port wine! Click on the photo to see our video! As you might notice, we completely ignored the confetti ban we have in this show………

Hans ended the night in style with a big party at a restaurant downtown! Well…….. our Art Director Per Arne Janssen from Wieder Design showed up at least!

The build inside the venue is still more or less on track. We got both some lighting trusses and speakers up in the air. As mentioned before, Ampco Flashlight from the proud bitterballen nation of The Netherlands together with their national partner Pixel Light supplies all our lighting and rigging. It’s their first time doing a full supply for Eurovision Song Contest. But wait! There is more!  Agora from Italy is our supplier for sound, and they are also a new member of our Eurovision family! WARM WELCOME! It’s great to have you aboard!

Here are two muppets I’m sure you remember from the past! Robban Roos is our technical manager for props and delegation extras and Tobbe Magnesved is our Senior Stage Manager Ninja! What he and his team can’t get on or off stage in 30 seconds, cannot be done.

And here is my dear Technical Director for show – A BIG HELLO to Nuno Van Grichen everybody! Nuno is a proud National resource, and he is a Rock Star!

Rig Rig Rig……….. those beautiful white walls in the back will be covered in black. Dimmer city 1 & 2 are on top of those towers, and hopefully there is a deep fryer and a freezer full of bitterballen up there as well. This was a clear demand from me to Flashlight!

Clay Paky Scenius in da house! We have almost 800 active Clay Paky fixtures in the rig, which is quite natural, since they are AWESOME!

It might be VERY hard to find black circle trusses on the European rental market until the end of May. It feels like most of them are in our venue………. designers………….

We’re taking the opportunity to hang the Green Room lighting parallel to all the rigging that is going on in the stage area. This will allow EPC to work in this area when it’s too crowded for them in the stage area.

Believe or not, but you can be creative when you run cables too!

And while I’m working hard, my wife is hanging out with our Executive Producer………..

And say HELLO to our Event Manager Maria Ferreira, here together with Carla and wifey. Carla and Maria are members of the inner core team, so I met them already the first time I came here. Girls – you are AMAZING! It’s been so FUN working with you! BURN!
