Welcome back to the Eurovision Diary!

My name is Ola Melzig, and I’m the Technical Director for the show, responsible for lighting, sound, staging, rigging, automation, LED, projection and pyro, so I’ll have my hands full, for sure.

Bookmark this page to get your daily updates - they will appear in order of the most recent news first, going backwards. If you've missed any days, there is a menu on the right. We'll stick to the format from previous years, where we post the daily news from what happened the day before, because we work late and don't want you to miss anything from the previous night!

So this is for you, dear readers. WELCOME to our daily lives.    Yours truly, Ola Melzig, Technical Director

Eurovision Diary 2013

Another year, another show!

Hi gang! And welcome back to the Eurovision Diary!
My name is Ola Melzig, and I’m the Technical Director for the show, responsible for lighting, sound, staging, rigging, automation, LED, projection and pyro, so I’ll have my hands full, for sure.

We’re starting off months earlier than what is usually the case with this diary, and I see that as a great opportunity for you to follow, not only the actual production, but also the many twists and turns, leading up to producing the largest Televised music show in the world.

I’m hired by Sveriges Television, and been working with this show since August. At first the team was very small, but it’s been growing slowly but surely over the past months. I’ll glance back in the past in the first updates, that will happen once a week, till we hit production load in on April 8,when we’ll go over to daily updates, to bring you up to speed with what we’ve done so far, things we looked into, and darlings we’ve killed.

It’s a VERY special show for me this year, in many ways. I’ve always said that I would stop doing Eurovision once I hit my tenth one, but how could I resist doing number 11, when it’s not only my lucky number, it’s not only in Sweden, but in the city where I was born and raised, which I love above all? And one day, I’ll move back to my roots: MALMÖ

Eurovision Song contest 2000, was not only my first Eurovision, it was actually my first TV-show! Why start small?? So, in many ways, the stars are aligned, and it’s time to close the circle!
But who knows…………. There might be a number 12 & 13 too :)

Never say never! I’ve done that enough times to know that it doesn’t work!

But it’s also a great opportunity to gather my old team, whom I’ve done so many Eurovision’s with, so there will be many familiar faces for you this year, if you’ve been following the blog in the past, but also a bunch of new ones of course!

And by starting this early, I’ll get a proper chance to introduce them all to you!

I guess that you are all aware that we just hit 2013! If you’re not, well…..that is YOUR problem…… Holy moly! That means that we are doing the show THIS YEAR! Up to a couple of days ago, it was next year, and we had oceans of time. Time to get busy!

So once again, WELCOME to our daily lives.

Yours truly,
Ola Melzig
