Welcome back to the Eurovision Diary!

My name is Ola Melzig, and I’m the Technical Director for the show, responsible for lighting, sound, staging, rigging, automation, LED, projection and pyro, so I’ll have my hands full, for sure.

Bookmark this page to get your daily updates - they will appear in order of the most recent news first, going backwards. If you've missed any days, there is a menu on the right. We'll stick to the format from previous years, where we post the daily news from what happened the day before, because we work late and don't want you to miss anything from the previous night!

So this is for you, dear readers. WELCOME to our daily lives.    Yours truly, Ola Melzig, Technical Director

 שלום אוהבי מוסיקה

I thought we should dig into the wonderful world of virtual pre programming today, since it has been a slow day at the venue, and therefore nothing new to tell y'all about.

Eddie

This is why with a pretty slow day. The funniest guy in the universe did a show in our venue. I wish I had time to see it, but I kind of missed it.

loadin

A sunny Saturday in March, a truck full of toys arrived to our office at SVT in Stockholm.

roomshot

And after spending a couple of hours building risers and patching cables, the upper floor in Stenskjulet was transformed into a virtual pre programming studio for Fredrik, Mikki, Emma and their FOH crew. All operators for light and video are using a Grand MA II Light, since they don't need all the faders a Full Size comes with. All operators for lighting are in separate sessions, to be able to work more freely, independent from each other, while the guys operating Media Servers share one session, which means that we'll have a total of 12 desks on FOH, including the back ups.

fredrik

Fredrik gave the project a helping hand when he decided to clean the reference fixtures he asked to have in the studio. Reference fixtures = One of each type of the different types of lighting sources we have in the rig.

timo

Timo Kauristo is not only a brilliant lighting desk operator. He is also a big fan of floating in the south Chinese ocean.

bullen

Pontus Bullen Lagerbielke is not only a brilliant lighting desk operator. He is also a big fan of fish in all shapes and forms.

calle

Calle Brattberg is not only a brilliant lighting desk operator. He is also a big fan of what I'm about to teach his son.

danne

Danne Persson is not only a brilliant lighting desk operator. He is also a big fan of sheep herding.

markus

Since all the operators usually use a Sirius 24 when they operate shows, I thought it was best to bring in some support for the MA system, since there are some minor differences between the two systems. So, you bring in the Super German, Markus Krömer, who is a HUGE fan of the musical Mamma Mia.

goobie

And since we never leave home without a back up, we thought we might as well bring in Gubi Schmidt too. Gubi is a big fan of the theory that everything is better in Sweden than in Denmark.

peppe

Peppe Tannemyr is our head of content design and a brilliant content creator. He is also a big fan of PC computers and bad coffee.

korven

Lennart Korven Wåhlin is not only a brilliant content creator. He is also a big fan boiled eggs in Ukraine.

pixel-smurfs

With heavy support from brilliant content creators Lill Peppe and Lill Korven, aka Johannes Ferm Winkler and Per Johansson.

mikko

Mikko Linnavuori is not only a brilliant operator of media servers. He is also a big fan of trash cans at FOH.

neil

Neil Trenell is not only a brilliant operator of media servers. He is also a big fan of non working multi view.

These are the people that we run 24km of signal cable for and trust with approximately 25 000 control channels.

GOD BLESS US!

They are the FUN in DYSFUNCTION!

(And FOH is no longer a safe place for me to be!!!)
